There are approximately 387 species of parrots and counting - we probably have yet to find and identify some extremely rare parrots that live in remote rainforests. Parrots are often conspicuous for their colorful plumage and are often seen grouping and feeding together. So what do you call a group of parrots?
The most common collective terms for parrot groups are pandemonium, flock, and parrot society. Pandaemonium - which is a fantastic word - really stands out here. Groups of parrots are often noisy, chaotic and manic - especially younger parrots - so they could be termed pandemonium.
Flock is a much more conventional term, while company probably refers to a colorful plumage of parrots resembling that of a military parade or company.

Parrots flock together in groups.Parrots exhibit a variety of flocking behaviors, at least for the purposes of foraging, travel, and resting.
Parrots are generally sociable, and there are very few exceptions. The lone kakapo of New Zealand is one of the most notable examples. While many consider parrots to be friendly, there are exceptions as many species are highly territorial during the breeding season.
Some parakeets, including golden, New Caledonian, and horn and monk parakeets, and white-bellied parakeets, also practice cooperative nesting behavior, meaning they nest together in small flocks.

Why do parrots flock together?
Parrots often flock together because their favorite tropical environments confine them to the same areas. Flocking together also provides safety in numbers, provides protection from predators, and allows the birds to share warmth at night while sleeping.
Parrots are often overtly gregarious and are often seen eagerly communicating between groups of 20 or more birds. Parrot society is extremely complex, and its complexity goes some way to explaining why parrots are so intelligent. With a very large brain compared to their body size, parrots are among the most intelligent animals in the world. Some, like the gray parrot, can even associate complex meanings with human words, and many parrots are capable of abstract or complex thinking.
In parrots, intelligence is likely associated with sociability. Parrots have learned that their survival rates are higher when they stay together, but they also enjoy socializing with one another in ways similar to other highly intelligent animals, including other birds, monkeys, dolphins, elephants and, of course, humans. They derive value from their social interactions beyond survival—it could even be said that they socialize just for fun.
This is certainly not to say that loners aren't intelligent, but that parrot intelligence helps facilitate their complex social lives.

When do parrots gather in groups?
Parrots flock together year-round. Almost no parrot species migrate, so they do not flock for migratory purposes. Instead, parrots flock primarily to feed and roost. Parrots still flock together to travel from place to place and you may occasionally see large colorful flying groups of flying macaws, parakeets, lorikeets or other parrots.
Parrots also flock together when sleeping; Yellow-shouldered parrots form large communal canopy roosts with hundreds of birds huddled together at night to retain warmth. The same is true of many other Amazon parrots, which sleep together and form clustered nests.
Many parrots flock to feed, including parakeets, macaws and cockatoos. Cockatoos are often spotted mobbing towns and suburbs. Thousands of white cockatoos populate the Australian town of Nowra, congregating daily to rummage through bins, climb roof poles and generally cause trouble - or you could say pandemonium!

How many parrots are in a flock?
Flocks of parrots can range from a few parrots to hundreds or even thousands of birds. The flocks of white cockatoos described above easily number in the thousands. Other parrots form smaller flocks, such as the gray parrot, which tends to stay in smaller groups of around 20 individuals.
Amazon parrots in the West Indies or other smaller Caribbean islands often form smaller flocks as well, and some species are quite solitary. It's really very beneficial - the habitats of most parrots in the tropical rainforest are extremely dense, and many species of parrots live in close proximity, making herd living a bit of a necessity.

Do parrot families stay together?
Parrot parents are very attentive, and both the male and female usually put a lot of work into raising the chicks. In some parrot species, such as Greater cockatoos and macaws, parental care extends past the 1 year mark, which is slightly above average.
After that, adult offspring will likely join a local herd to find a mate and establish their own territory.
Parrot families generally do not cooperate when it comes to raising chicks like other similarly intelligent sociable birds (e.g. corvids), except for maybe 20 or so species.

Do parrots breed cooperatively?
The very sociable nature of parrots presents a bit of a paradox, as they rarely breed cooperatively and are often very territorial during mating. Parrots such as Green-rumped Parrots, Scarlet, Green-winged, Blue and Golden Macaws and Hyacinth Macaws and many Amazonian parrot species tend to withdraw from flock life during breeding.
This is by no means uncommon in all birds, but other similarly gregarious birds often breed cooperatively, such as cuckoos, corvids and ostriches.
Cooperative breeding means that birds share territories and nests while breeding and raising chicks, while possibly also helping each other with nest building, foraging for the offspring, etc.
However, there are some exceptions; White-bellied wharfs, black-capped parakeets and some species of parakeets have all been observed as possibly participating in cooperative breeding.

There are no specific terms for a pair of parrots, instead they are simply referred to as a pair of parrots.
Parrots are generally monogamous, with the exception of very few species including the polyandrous Eclectus parrots and Vasa parrots.
Parrot monogamy means that parrots form lifelong matings, and considering that many parrots live into their 50s, some of these bonds can even last as long (or longer) as a human marriage!
